SuRealistas: surreally sensational! Through their veins flows Argentinian, Sicilian, Tuscan and even a tiny bit of Bosnian blood. Their hearts pound to the rhythm of Afro-American claves, between cumbia and son, MPB and bossa nova. And their teenage dreams are full of rock and psychedelia, songwriting and literature. With a new album under their belts, they will prove in GROUNDS that dreams do come true.
SuRealistas is a genuine band, like in the old days. Without a leader: based on an idea of a circle, enclosing and encompassing a range of ideas, voices, and colours. ‘Life is the art of encounter,’ said Vinícius de Morães. And from the encounter between so many dreams was born the dream of SuRealistas, packed with original songs inspired deeply by a love for South American tradition.
Because this is the key to their realism, both magical and surreal, where ‘Sur’ refers not only to South America, but also the South and the periphery of the world, minority and diversity, nature on the verge of collapse and a world that does not quite know where it is going. Each show is a kind of ritual, a hymn to life, song and dance that you’ll hardly forget.
After three European tours (France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Spain, Switzerland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Albania, northern Macedonia and Hungary) and four albums (SuRealistas in 2016, Canta in 2018, Ritmo Animal in 2020 and La Vuelta this year), SuRealistas has a clear goal: to be open to the world and always ready to dance.
