Guitarist Valentijn Bannier, born in Naarden, was discovered at a young age by the members of the Brazilian electro group Zuco 103, with whom he toured all over the world. He has a rich history with well-known artist such as Lefties Soul Connection, Ruben Hein, Giovanca,  Steye, and ofcourse Koffie. Eventually, he felt the desire to do it himself. He returned to everything that had once inspired him, and started his own project under the name Cirque.

The percussionist Steven Brezet, born and raised in Rotterdam, is world-renowned in Latin and World music. Growing up with his mother’s love for African dance, Steven was introduced to percussion at an early age. He began with the djembe and sabar and quickly expanded his collection to include congas, bongos, timbales, and timbal. Steven’s greatest passion is mixing African percussion with Brazilian and Latin American music. He regularly travels the world to showcase his blend of Salsa, Son, Latin Jazz, and Afrobeat in countries like Senegal, Guinea, Curaçao, Morocco, Turkey, and Brazil.

World Sessions: a series of ten unique concerts exploring different World Music genres.

Each session, we pair young talent and well-known names from the scene, challenging them to create a special performance for the evening. Following the concert, there will be a jam session providing other musicians the opportunity to showcase their skills on stage and network in the World Music scene.

World Sessions is led by Daan Arets and organized by Stichting GloMAD with support from Lab Grounds, Gemeente Rotterdam, Stichting Volkskracht and Popunie.
