The much-anticipated Culture Unlimited Festival is back for its 2024 edition, offering a spectacular celebration of diversity, art, and intercultural exchange. From late November to December 23rd, audiences across several Dutch cities are invited to embark on this extraordinary cultural journey. This year, the festival proudly presents a diverse array of music, primarily highlighting the rich traditions of the Eastern world. Audiences can expect to be immersed in a variety of genres, from contemporary classical to jazz, pop, electronic, and Eastern folk music.
Sigá y Silente, meaning “in a gentle and silent way,” is the collaborative project of Andalucian percussionist Lucas Zegrí and Greek pianist Yiorgos Bereris. When they first met in 2021, they shared a common need to communicate despite linguistic barriers, finding music as their universal language. And on this occasion, they are going to present us their album for the very first time.
Their orchestration combines a variety of percussion instruments from Latin American, Balkan, and Middle Eastern cultures, such as batá, pandeiro, cajon, and bendir, complemented by a pianistic style that merges jazz with East-Mediterranean traditions.
Since they first started, they have performed a series of concerts in the Netherlands, Spain, and Greece. In Autumn 2024, they are set to release their debut album, titled “Siga y Silente,” featuring original compositions influenced by flamenco, Afro-Cuban rhythms, jazz, and Greek traditional music. One notable collaboration on the album includes the talented flamenco singer from Andalucia, Blanca La Almendrita.

Under the Surface is a Dutch band formed by Dutch drummer Joost Lijbaart (known for his work with Yuri Honing), guitarist Bram Stadhouders (known from his work with the Netherlands chamber choir, Jim Black, Sidsel Endersen) and vocalist Sanne Rambags (winner conservatory talent award 2017). The trio met in 2015 as an initiative of the Dutch foundation Beaux Jazz. This foundation offers young talents artistic support.
Drummer Joost Lijbaart (Amsterdam, 1967) belongs to the top of the Dutch jazz scene, Bram Stadhouders (Tilburg, 1987) is one of the most promising new young musicians in the European improvisation circuit and he received many awards and Sanne Rambags (Tilburg ,1994) is one of the few singers of her generation who is able to improvise in a very open way, sometimes with self-written texts and poems, sometimes by positioning herself completely between the musicians. This gives her voice an instrumental function which is beautifully in line with the open group sound and the playing of Lijbaart and Stadhouders.
Their debut album was released in March 2017 on the Dutch label Challenge Records and got great reviews. The universal language in their music brought the group to major festivals in Mali, Mexico, China, Norway, India and the Netherlands. Under the Surface is a unique trio of three musicians from different generations who have found each other in a common urge to search for space and silence through improvisation.
