ENGIN adds a new perspective to the German alternative indie scene by fusing psychedelic pop with Anatolian rock influences, instantly building bridges between the cultural richness of both worlds. The Mannheimer trio’s unique live performances are raw, hypnotic and always danceable and this will be no different this time. On 30 May, they will halt at GROUNDS on their Şeker Tour and one thing is already known for sure: it is going to be sweet!
Drifting psychedelia and fuzzy guitars, intricate rhythms and a light-footed vibe, the vocals urgent and with a lot of soul. Songs in which life sometimes tastes stale, but mostly bitter, sweet and spicy. ENGIN tells of all that life reveals: beauty and dirt, madness and adventure, loneliness and euphoria. And all this in a detailed and highly catchy sound that can easily be described as German-Turkish indie rock.
The band finds its inspiration in the Anatolian rock of the 70s, the inventive fusions of greats like Barış Manço and Cem Karaca, but also in a sincere love of pop culture ranging from Pink Floyd to Altın Gün and The War On Drugs. On their latest album Mesafeler (2024), ENGIN transports the sound and stories of Turkish classics of Anadolu rock, chanson and folkmusic into the present day and gives it a contemporary indie rock sound.
Mannheim’s talent factory brought German football many successes in the 1980s and 1990s, but now it is ENGIN’s turn to put them on the world map musically as well. Their engine is already running, so come and see them at GROUNDS!
